Wrist Power In Golf

By: Mike Schlacter

If you're in the pursuit of longer drives, wrist power in golf should be a focal point of your power golf training program. Statistics have shown that 78% of your clubhead speed comes from the cocking and uncocking of your wrist lag late in the downswing.

The only problem is most golfers don't have the wrist strength or flexibility to not only attain the proper wrist cock, but retain it once they get it. There is a tremendous amount of stress on the wrist joint during the golf swing. This stress can turn into overuse injuries causing pain, and worse, taking you off the golf course indefinitely.

To achieve wrist power in golf, you must incorporate simple golf exercises to strengthen and stretch the muscles surrounding the wrist joint. These exercises can be done with a golf club, dumbbell, weighted golf club or even exercise tubing with handles.

So if you've learned anything from this article, the secret to power golf is in the wrist.
