By: Sarfaraz Khan

Thousands of people play golf. It has always been seen as an upper class game however peoples opinions are now changing. Long gone are the days where you had to wear plus fours and check jumpers. It is now more affordable than ever and is now a game for everyone not just old men! Here are some of the benefits

Exercise

Golf is one of the best exercises that you can do. Many people who have had heart problems and who are not in the best of health take up golf. Lots of doctors recommend walking to patients as a good way of getting fit and especially after surgery. There are 1760 yards in a mile, the average course is anywhere from 5000 yards to 6500 yards. The shortest distance between two points is in a straight line however not everyone is Tiger Woods so the amount of walking can sometimes be doubled. If you are not a straight hitter you will be walking a lot more. Generally not many people use golf buggies due to course regulations and competition rules. Golfing can keep your heart pumping at a good pace depending on the golf terrain. So if you have not walked much in the past taking it could be a good idea for you.

Challenge

Many people who do not play golf ask the same question over and over again, why would anybody want to chase a little golf ball around? In fact many golfers ask themselves that question. the whole reason for playing is the challenge. It is a real adrenaline kick to see the ball fly in the air to the green and see it land 4 foot from the flag. The player gets a feeling of success and people love the challenge of coming back and trying to repeat the same shot. There is a huge amount of frustration of not being able to make the shot over and over again then finally doing it. Is has more than one challenge. There is a challenge within yourself to play better and to beat your competitors. For many professionals it is a real uphill battle to try and beat your own game.

Scenery

Golf courses have some of the best breathtaking scenery. Obviously it all depends on where you play. Many courses have trees of all colours that dtretch out on both sides of the fairway. Many courses have water features and some tee boxes are perched up on a hillside overlooking a valley or body of water.

Tranquillity

It is a very relaxing game depending on how well your game is going. There is a lot of natural beauty and it can be nice to play and just clear your head. Many courses take you far away from the club house and people find a lot of peace in the country side.

Social
