What You Must Know About Golf Strength Training Or Else!

By: Trent

Golfers are waking up! They now realize golf strength training is one of the key elements in maximizing their potential. Are you part of this group? If so, you might want to read this article to avoid hurting your golf game.

No Weight Machines

If you want to improve your golf swing, do NOT use the machines in your gym! They will not improve your swing! Why? Because they require sitting (golf is standing), they isolate one muscle group (golf uses all of them), and it is controlled (golf is dynamic - free flowing). Is that enough reasons for you?

In order to improve your golf swing muscles, you must closely resemble the mechanics of the golf swing. This is impossible for most commercial machines! Show me one machine in your gym that replicates your golf swing. There isn't any (accept the multi cable machine).

Do NOT Lift Heavy Weights

Golf requires dynamic power. This doesn not mean heavy weights that can put your tendons, ligaments and muscles at risk of injury. Don't get me wrong. You should definitely aim to improve your current golf-specific strength by slowly increasing the weight and sometimes the number of repetitions, but not by maxing out.

I see many trainers putting their golfers through weight training sets that take them to failure. What in golf goes to failure? Nothing! So...why would you do it in your golf training? You wouldn't! If a trainer does this...RUN!

Do NOT Perform The Barbell Bench Press!

I am dead serious! This exercise is worthless to a golfer! I challenge any trainer to come up with reasons to do this potentially damaging exercise for golfers. There are so many fantastic substitutes using dumbbells, cables, tubing and balls, you would never need to do this one harmful exercise.

Do Cardio Work Every Week

I have recently hear some trainers saying do NOT do cardio if you're a golfer. This is OBSURD! What trainer would EVER say this to a client? There are some many benefits of doing cardio you would be a fool to listen to such garbage from these "so-called" golf fitness experts.

Cardiovascular exercise keeps your heart strong and health, burns fat for optimal bodyfat percentages, and gives you ENERGY! Do any of these benefits look like they would HURT a golfer? I don't think so!

Please take the above information to heart if you're a golfer who truly wants to play better golf!
