What Is The Proper Weight Distribution During The Golf Swing

By: Mike T Pedersen

Learning what the proper weight distribution during the golf swing is like lining up 100 golf instructors and them telling you 100 different opinions. Especially now with the much talked about Stack and Tilt golf swing method.

Address Position

I personally feel your weight distribution is 50/50 during the set-up. It may favor the right side a tad if you're a right handed golfer, but only a tad.

Take-Away

As you take the club back, I still want to feel centered in my hips, but naturally some weight distribution will shift to load your right side. I just don't think you should overkill it on this. Try to stay somewhat centered so you don't get into swaying laterally.

At The Top

At the top of your backswing I feel like maybe I'm now 75% on my right side, but again, I feel centered in my hips. I spent many years with a nasty sway that no instructors could cure, so by trial-and-error I learned to stay centered between my feet during the whole swing. At least that's my swing thought for me personally.

Downswing

Of course on the downswing your are taking your weight distribution back to center to powerfully hit the ball, but making sure you are "behind the ball" at impact and not past it.

Through Swing And Finish

Now the through swing is a little more weight distributed onto the lead or left side for me, but again, not wanting to slide or laterally move my hips to far.

The finish is nearly 100% on my left side. Sometimes I don't get there, but I really try.

With all this being said, learning what the proper weight distribution is during your golf swing is worthless if you have a physically restricted body. Losing flexibility and strength as we get older kills our golf swing.

Do you want to discover the secret to creating more power and consistency in your golf swing... AND eliminating ALL your swing faults?
