Vacations to Cleveland

By: Dwayne Shepperd

Cleveland is in the state of Ohio right next to Lake Erie. You won't be short of activities if you decide to visit. There are all kinds of events, festivals and attractions.

If you like action, consider all the water sports and other activities for you to partake of. Lake Erie is the place to find sun in summer and lots of fun things to do on, in, and near the water.

If you're a fan of culture and the arts you will find several museums to visit. The downtown streets offer excellent shopping by day in the many upscale boutiques. There is plenty of nightlife to satisfy your various interests as well. If you're there on a romantic interlude, try a cruise along the shoreline. You can find daytime cruises so you can enjoy the sun, or later in the day to experience a warm early evening.

If your children are accompanying you on a trip to Cleveland, a side trip to nearby Aurora and the Six Flags Words of Adventure Amusment Park are sure to give your children a thrill they will remember for some time. The Six Flags Park includes a water, marine and thrill park, all hosted under the reliable Six Flags entertainment umbrella. Cleveland offers some amazing theater productions. The beautiful Playhouse Square is home to four seperate theaters, each presenting numerous productions each year.

While you are in Cleveland you'll want to see at least one or two of the museums and art galleries that can be found throughout the city. Check out the Cleveland Natural History Museum or the Cleveland Museum of Art for a quiet afternoon away from the more hectic sightseeing. The Cleveland Museum of Art opened in 1913 and has some excellent permanent pieces by artists such as Monet, Degas, Renoir, and Van Gogh. If your children are visiting Cleveland with you, you'll want to stop at the Great Lake Science Center where you can take part in the many hands-on exhibits that will keep you and your family busy for many hours. For a more quiet way to spend a sunny afternoon make sure that you stop at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens where you can wander around among the many flowers and plants.

The Cleveland Metropark Zoo is one of the last must-sees that you'll have to make time for before leaving the city. This zoo is the seventh oldest zoo in the United States and is home to a multitude of animals in their natural settings. You can visit the many specialized exhibits, which includes the Rainforest exhibit and the Australian Adventure exhibit. No matter what time of the year that you visit Cleveland you'll find that there is plenty to keep you busy.
