Tips And Tutorial For Beginner Golfers: Golf Swing Instruction Works

By: Curt Smith

A tutorial for beginner golfers just starting out with beginner golf swing instruction should be the first item on the list. Getting the fundamentals down will help you hit consistent shots from the getgo.

Golf Swing Fundamentals

Golf Grip

Your grip is the only connection you have to your golf club. Without a good grip, you will not be able to bring the clubhead squarely into the ball at impact. Your grip dictates club/ball contact. Get it right and you're golden. Get it wrong and you'll be one frustrated golfer.

Golf Posture

Your golf posture is your foundation to your golf swing. How you set up to the ball will determine how well you swing the club. With poor posture, you will not be able to make a full backswing, robbing you of power.

Your setup is critical to your consistency. Maintaining your golf posture throughout your golf swing is of the utmost of importance. That means the exact same knee flex, hip bend, and upper body angle.

Ball Position

Your ball position changes slightly with every club. Get it wrong and you'll never be coming into the ball at the right arc. Meaning you will either hit it fat, thing, top it, or chunk it.

Ball position is further up for the driver, and slowing moves back in your stance as the clubs get shorter.

Golf Swing Instruction

Seek out an instructor through a golfing buddy or referral. Interview them before you hire them. Golf swing instruction can vary immensely with every teacher. They have their own philosophy and way they communicate it.

Starting off on the right foot will give you the best chance at success in golf.
