Pointers for Women Golfers

Most golf courses have been designed by architects with the male golfer in mind.

This results in women having little chance to reach the green in regulation figures.

Don't be discouraged, scoring is not off the tee, it is constructed around the greens. The short game is where woman excel making up for the loss in distance.

The first tip a woman should be given is this, physical prowess is not where a woman excels in golf, and women excel in accuracy, which is their key to success.

What makes a woman and man equal on the course is that while most women aren't familiar with how to hold a baseball, (this is natural for most men) they also come to the game with no preconceived idea of how to hold the club.

In general womens hands are smaller than mens so she will in all likelihood have to use either an interlock grip or the natural 10-finger grip (baseball), in this grip both palms and all 10 fingers are on the shaft.

While all golfers have the difficulty of keeping a firm grip during the swing, this is an especially difficult problem for women.

Its seems that they loosen their grip at the top of their swing; women should be advised that a club is a weapon, made for attacking a ball!

Re-gripping on the way down is a result of a loose grip at the top of the swing, this causes a loss of head control and a loss of distance.

It may be helpful to practice swinging the club back with only the left hand, it makes you aware of the need to grip firmly with the last three fingers, and you will develop a muscle memory in your fingers and forearm and the strength to stay firm from the start to the end of your swing.
