A simple training routine that many golfers claim improves their scores

By: Len McGrane

Feel that urge to lower your score? Many pro golfers will tell you to improve your swing.

No-one denies that the swing is a basic feature of the game of golf and that it needs to be performed correctly. But working on being stronger while they also develop the swing is giving many golfers great score cards.

Being fit is golf's secret.

In our game, this means developing the hamstrings, neck, arms, feet, hips, upper body and knees. These are the parts that determine how good our game is and especially how good our swing is. Unfortunately, just being fit in a general sense, or fit for a specific sport, like pole vaulting, does not make me fit for the stresses of golf.

You have to be fit to take the physical demands of golf, and you only get fit when you exercise.

Flexibility and strength are also required for high performance golf. Leading golfers have both, as you can tell when you see them swing seemingly effortlessly with a perfectly balanced union of strength and flexibility. Power made manifest!

Well, I should say strength is doubly important, since the best golfers have developed their core strength and stability. Become flexible, but put real effort on increasing your strength.

But there's good news: you only need hand weights and exercise tubes to become golfing fit. The exercises you need to do can be done in your bedroom.

Some people shouldn't be using their time exercising in a gym to get fit. Because they are exercising hard but not knowing which specific training builds which muscles and, as a result, their game.

Whatever happens, work on those specific muscles I've mentioned.

As you exercise for golf you not only feel like a pro, you score like one.
